Terraced house ground floor internal redesign and extension.

Client: Private

Project type: Terraced House Internal Redesign and Extension.

Completed: June 2017

Approximate value: £81,000

This scheme was featured within the December 2017 edition of ‘Real Homes’ magazine.

Having successfully completed a scheme for a client, a family member of theirs approached WGADD to provide them with a design for a rear side extension and an internal ground floor redesign of their terraced property in West Norwood London.

The existing house had previously been converted into bedsits, with a dark kitchen and dining room located within the centre of the house. Luckily the clients could see the potential of the dwelling and look past the awkward and un-usable spaces which were not conducive to modern living.

WGADD were able to redesign the internal layout to provide all the amenities such as the utility room and toilet within the centre of house which allowed a large kitchen /dining area to be located within the existing rear room. The proposed side extension would be accessed directly off of the main entrance hall.

Due to the proximity of the side extension against the neighbouring property boundary, natural light through the use of typical windows would not be possible. Therefore, to ensure the rear of the proposed kitchen/ dining area was flooded with natural daylight, rooflights were introduced. The natural daylight into the kitchen dining area was also enhanced by the large pane Bi-fold doors across the rear elevation. Not only does this provide additional daylight into the plan but it also plays with the internal/ external space creating the illusion/ feeling of a larger kitchen/ dining area or garden when the doors are open.
